Accessibility

Last updated 21 August 2026

We build to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and we hold this site to the same standard we sell. If you bid public-sector work, accessibility is increasingly a prequalification question — so this page also serves as a worked example of what a statement should contain.

The standard

This site targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the level referenced by Canadian federal accessibility requirements, by most provincial public-sector procurement, and by Ontario’s AODA for organisations it covers.

What is in place

Every colour pair on this site was measured rather than eyeballed. Body text on the page background measures 17:1 against a 4.5:1 requirement. Our signal red measures 3.77:1 on light backgrounds, which is why it is used only for large text, borders and interface elements — and why buttons in that red carry black labels, at 4.52:1, rather than white ones.

Beyond contrast: semantic headings in order with one H1 per page, visible focus rings on every interactive element, a skip link to the main content, keyboard operation throughout, primary tap targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels and no interactive target below the 24-pixel WCAG minimum, descriptive alt text on meaningful images and empty alt on decorative ones, form labels tied to their inputs with required fields marked in text as well as colour, and full support for prefers-reduced-motion, which disables every looping animation on the site.

Known limitations

We would rather list these than claim perfection.

Some decorative animations convey a sense of activity that is not available to screen reader users; in each case the surrounding text carries the actual meaning. Complex diagrams are marked aria-hidden with their content described in adjacent prose rather than exposed as structured graphics. We have not yet completed a full audit with a screen reader across every page of the site.

How this was tested

Contrast ratios calculated against the WCAG relative luminance formula for every colour pair in the design system. Keyboard navigation walked manually on every template. Tap target sizes measured in-browser at the 412-pixel viewport width Google’s mobile testing emulates, checked across every page template rather than sampled. Automated checks run as part of the build.

Reporting a barrier

If any part of this site prevents you doing something, tell us and we will fix it. Email hello@constructionindustrywebsites.ca or call (403) 917-0787. We aim to respond within two business days and to describe what we will do and when.

If you would rather not use a form or email, call and speak to a person. That is a valid way to contact us and always will be.
